Experimental investigation on air-breathing continuous rotating detonation engine in the cavity-based combustor

Abstract In order to broaden the stable working range of air-breathing continuous rotating detonation engine and explore influence combustor configuration on propagation characteristics wave, cavity-based annular is introduced. Air-breathing experiments are conducted with non-premixed ethylene air. A tri-propellant air-heater used imitate outlet parameters intake Ma4/20km. The designed mass flow 1kg/s total temperature 860K. results show that self-sustaining wave cannot be formed in conventional combustor. realized at equivalent ratio 0.62 0.72 combustor, velocity which about 900 m/s. It demonstrated vortex zone cavity conducive formation can effectively engine. Feasibility validated.
